The police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old woman outside a nightclub in Manhattan on Monday, a day later in Brooklyn, the authorities said.

Detectives made fast progress on the case, the authorities said, because they had identified the suspect, Dalone Jamison, almost immediately.

Investigators focused on Mr. Jamison, they said on Tuesday, because he had sent messages on social media about the shooting outside the club, Motivo, and because the people they had spoken to who were at the club said they knew and recognized him. In addition, surveillance video caught his image at the club in the Flatiron district before the gunfire erupted around 4 a.m., the authorities said.

“He was trying to shoot at the bouncers, and she just happened to be walking out with two other women,” the official said. “There is no possibility that he was even interested in shooting at her. She was a completely unintended victim.”
